Summer Skincare tips from the Erno Laszlo Institute

Summer has finally arrived in New York City and we’ve already had some killer heat waves.  No better time to share summer skincare tips to help you keep your skin hydrated and healthy.  I recently attended a fun girl’s brunch hosted by my friend Helena at the Erno Laszlo Institute in Soho.  I never need a reason to get together with girlfriends but when mimosa’s and beauty tips are in the mix, count me in!  During the brunch, one of their aesthetician’s shared some fantastic summer skincare tips.  I have very pale skin and paid close attention.

About the brand:  Founded in New York by Dr. Erno Laszlo in 1927, his clients included Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe.  If those lovely ladies trusted their skin to Dr. Laszlo, then so can I!  The legacy of the brand is based on his bespoke and customized approach to skincare; and his famous 2-step cleansing process.  If you’re in NYC, I definitely recommend stopping by their institute to learn more about the products and pick up a few based on your skin type.

SUMMER SKINCARE TIPS

SUN PROTECTION – SPF 30 gives 98% protection from the sun but only protects from UVB not UVA rays.  (UVB rays cause skin cancer while UVA rays cause aging).  Don’t forget to reapply sunscreen every couple hours, even waterproof as it washes off when you get out of the water.

CLEANSE – Make sure you are cleansing your skin morning and night to wash away makeup and pollutants.  Like other skincare products, your cleansing products should also be tailored to your skin type.

EXFOLIATE your skin a couple of times per week (not daily) to keep it glowing and to remove dry flaky skin caused by indoor air conditioning and outside humidity.  Choose an exfoliator with Vitamin C; which contains antioxidants to help brighten your skin.

HYDRATE – Drinking water is least effective way to hydrate your skin which was something I was very surprised to hear.  It hydrates your vital organs which is equally important but you still need to take necessary steps to hydrate from the outside with moisturizers and hydrating serums.  Eating summer fruit is also a great source of hydration and antioxidants.

SHEET MASKS are a great way to give your skin an instant pick me up & easy to use at home.

After the skincare chat, a makeup artists from Glam Squad shared some quick and easy makeup tips for summer.  Glam Squad is a great resource for woman in NYC, LA, Miami and now DC (more cities coming soon).  You can make an appointment to have your hair, makeup and/or nails done at a convenient location (ie; home or at the office before an event).  They have recently partnered with Erno Laszlo and offer a new face mask service with the raved about customizable mask treatments.

ERNO LASZLO PRODUCTS I PERSONALLY USE

*I use the below products based on my current skin type which is combination to dry.  Due to some thyroid issues, it can also be sensitive but not always.  Be sure to select products for your skin type; whether normal to oily, dry, sensitive, etc.

Hydraphel Lotion – I’ve been using this for over a year and am hooked.  I’ve found that some toners (even hydrating ones) actually dry out your skin but this is calming, soothing and hydrating.  It’s the first thing I put on my skin after cleansing.  When I have time, I will wait a few minutes before putting on my moisturizer just to enjoy how good my skin feels from it.

Hydra Therapy Refresh Infusion – Another one that I have used for awhile and about to run out of my 2nd bottle.  This goes on after toner and before your moisturizer and sometimes I put it on at night.

2-Step Cleanser: I vary from using the Sensitive Skin (pink) and Hydrating set (yellow) depending what my skin is in the mood for.  They also have this travel set that comes with a special case for easy travel.  These are super affordable!

Luminous Dual Phase Vitamin C Peel –  So far I’ve been using this exfoliating peel about every 10 days and have really liked it.  The scent of fresh oranges is so refreshing and I love the warming effect from the oil.

Hydra Therapy Memory Sleep Mask –  This is an amazing night mask that feels really light and I don’t even notice it while I’m sleeping.  You can’t see it and it dissolves overnight so it’s perfect for long flights.  I’ve heard its a game changer for keeping skin feeling fresh on an overnight flight and will definitely be bringing it with me on my next flight to Paris.

PRODUCTS MY FRIENDS USE & RECOMMEND

The above include the 2-step cleansing but for different skin types from what I have.  I have also yet to try their sheet masks but I have heard such amazing things from friends who use them, I will definitely pick up a few when I next visit the institute. I think the pink (for sensitive skin) will be perfect for me.

Would love to hear your summer skincare tips & if you have any favorite Erno Laszlo products.

xx, Angie

ps. This is NOT a sponsored post. I just genuinely love their products and appreciated the time they spent sharing summer skincare tips.
