While living in Paris to finish the research for my book, BRIGHT LIGHTS PARIS, I wanted to also travel to a couple of cities outside of the City of Lights that I had never visited. I decided on a weekend to the Brittany Coast with my boyfriend and a day trip to visit Monet’s home and gardens in Giverny with my friend Belinda. Both trips were so inspiring, I knew that I had to incorporate them into the book. Lucky for me, the European train system makes it easy to travel to seaports, small villages and major cities throughout Europe. My favorite way to buy and look for train tickets is on Rail Europe.com. The site is easy to navigate and offers a variety of tickets from one-way, round-trip and even month long rail passes. Here’s a little peak into my weekend to Cancale and day trip to Giverny. Scroll all the way down to learn how you can win an amazing train journey through Germany and Switzerland, with Rail Europe’s Artist in Residence program later this year….
A WEEKEND IN CANCALE
When my boyfriend was visiting me in Paris, we booked our tickets and headed to the beautiful town of Cancale on the Brittany Coast for a weekend. We enjoyed fresh oysters just out of the ocean, shopping for Breton stripe shirts and spices and walked along the shore when it was low tide. Exploring a part of France that was new to both of us was so special and I can’t wait to return to visit some of the other towns in the area.
DAY TRIP TO GIVERNY
Just over an hour train ride away from Paris, is the enchanting village of Giverny. The second you arrive at Monet’s garden you see his paintings come to life before your eyes. Saying it’s magical is an understatement. It’s an easy train ride and day trip from Paris.
